The Man Of Codes
Hello everyone. Praise the Lord!
I was at the hospice on a Saturday afternoon just after lunch for the patients. They had a nice baked fish lunch. I settled down and had a great time talking with an elderly gentleman in a room directly across from the third floor nurses station. His name was Gino but went by the nickname Jerry.
He grew up on a farm in Mattoon Illinois. When he found out that he was going to be number one in the draft in his county, he joined the Air Force. This was during the Vietnamese War.
Well, he ended up in the combat zone anyway! When he volunteered to join the Air Force, the made him a code man flying on bomber's over the sky's of Vietnam! I guess that it must have been destiny!
He was stationed at an Air Force base on an island of Okinawa. He was a non-commissioned officer who specializes in receiving and sending military codes while flying on B-52 bombers.
Even though they were targets and had seen many bombers being shot down, he survived! He served out his enlistment and returned home having done his duty.
Have you ever been on a B-52 bombers? Can you tell me about it in the comments section?
