Mattoon, Illinois

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

I was told by one of the nurses that an elderly gentleman would love to have a visit.  So I walked to his room and walked in the door.  He was lying in bed and finishing up his lunch, fish and rice.  The food here is always so good!

The man's name was Gino but went by the nickname of Jerry.  After he was finished we started talking about golf, which was his passion and business.  He made golf clubs and owned a golf supply store.

I asked him if he was from our area, he said that he was originally from Mattoon, Illinois.  His parents we farmers just outside of the town. He said that he had a wonderful time growing up on the farm.

He left the farm at eighteen years old to join the Air Force because he was going to be drafted into the military during the war in Vietnam!  He never went back to living on the farm but he had wonderful memories of his raising in Mattoon, Illinois!

Do you know of anyone from Mattoon, Illinois?  Can you tell me about it in the comments section?
