AWOL While On Duty!

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

I was in a room at our hospice visiting with an elderly gentleman named Gino, but went by Jerry, who is a Vietnam War veteran!  That kind of perked my interest because my own father was also a Vietnam War veteran!

After he finished his lunch of baked fish, he started to share stories with me.  He was very excited about having an ear to fill up!  One of his stories was a good one!

He had joined the United States Air Force, went through basic training at an Air Force base, went to Technical School at an Air Force base, was stationed to an Air Force base on the island of Okinawa. He was transported there by the United States Air Force.

While serving on United States bombers for about three months, and in the Air Force service and payroll, the FBI sent him a letter stating that he was currently AWOL.  AWOL means, "absent without leave!"

He was shocked and amazed by the letter! He immediately gave it to his commanding officer, who was also wondering what happened!

Needless to say that he was never AWOL and they eventually cleared it all up.  Everyone got a real laugh at the FBI and the Air Force  for their mistake!

Have you gotten a crazy letter from the government?  Can you tell me about it in the comments section?
