The Swiss Chef
Hello everyone. Praise the Lord!
I was on the second floor with Elizabeth, my shadow for the day. A shadow is a new hospice volunteer shadowing an experienced volunteer. Elizabeth is a very nice lady in her sixties. We had visited several patients downstairs and now we are on our way to the nurses station on the second floor.
On our way to the second floor nurses station, we almost got run over by a purple haired lady in a wheel chair bowling her way down the hallway. She went one way and we went the other way! The nurses advised us to visit a man at the end of the hallway.
We walked down to the end of the hall. we walk in and there is an elderly man was in bed. The pull-out couch was made into a bed next to the patient. That is an obvious sign that he has family with him.
My shadow and I stand next to the patient and ask him if he wants some company. He happily agreed. After a bit of talking to him it is evident that he has an accent. I asked him where he is from originally. He says that he was born and raised in Interlock, Switzerland. Interlock means between the lakes, that is because it is an area between two lakes.
At that point, one of his three daughters roll in on her wheel chair. She had broken her foot here at our hospice! It was the wild lady with purple hair that almost ran us over in the hallway! She gets out of the wheel chair and plops on the couch bed. She is from Portland, Oregon.
He has been a private chef all of his life. He learned to cook in Switzerland and he came to New York City to cook at a private club. He has been all over the world cooking delicious food at private clubs. These private clubs are where extremely wealthy people get together and visit and network.
That's why the rich get richer! This man spent his life cooking for them in these private club and made a wonderful living. He has three children and took them around the world for work and on vacation. He of course has taken his children and grand children to his home town in Switzerland.
Do you know of anyone from Switzerland? Can you tell me about it in the comments section?
