The Dozen Cousins

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

I was volunteering at the hospice on a beautiful Saturday morning.  I was walking around with a mint jar in my hands.  Offering folks a mint is a good way to break the ice when meeting strangers for the first time.

I walked in the door of a room with an elderly gentleman lying in bed and a middle-aged lady, probably in her sixties, sitting next to him on the couch.  I walked in with a smile and offer her a mint, which she took a few.

She mentions then that her father her in bed is a veteran! He was a  pilot in the Navy during World War Two!  Also his brother and sister were Navy pilots!  She said that they were a group of a dozen cousins in his family that all volunteered for the World War Two together!

The family called them the Dozen Cousins afterwards!  Most of them served with distinction and returned home, some did not.  The patients brother was taking off in a Navy plane and it caught fire on rake-off!  He brother, even though an excellent pilot, died while trying to land again!

The Dozen Cousins, because of their bond in wartime, remained close afterwards.  They were a special group who volunteered to help out our country in it's time of greatest need. One of them is now passing away!

Do you know someone that is or was a Navy pilot?  Can you tell me about it in the comments section?
