Cotton Gin Festival
Hello everyone. Praise the Lord!
I was talking to a family member who had her mother into our hospice as a patient. I sat down with her and we had a very nice three-hour visit with each other. Donna was very talkative and shared a lot of stories with me.
Several of those stories had to do with the town of Burton, Texas, where she had lived years earlier. The town of Burton is a community of only three-hundred people. It is a close knit town.
On the last Weekend of every April they have their annul Cotton Gin Festival. This years festival was the thirtieth anniversary festival! It all started thirty years ago when the town folks found an old nineteen-fourteen cotton gin in an old barn.
They cleaned up the old gin and got it running. During the festival the bail cotton just like they did decades ago. It all starts with a all you can eat shrimp boil on Friday evening, Saturday they have a parade down main street, which includes a children s bicycle parade. They had a bubble gum blowing contest, seed pulling contest, pie eating contest. They had a antique tractor pull and show, and lots of family activities.
A folk life demonstration and a antique engine exhibit, kiddie tractor pull and a live band playing. It's lots of clean fun for the family! Good clean fun is always fun, and all of the folks enjoy each other.
Do you have a town festival in your town? Can you tell me about it in the comments section?
