A Sailors Mouth

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

I was at the nurses station for just a bit after I came into our hospice to volunteer.  They were all talking about a patient in one of the rooms.  It was a lady patient and the medication that she was receiving was causing some side effects.

The medications was causing this mild-mannered lady to have a sailors mouth!  She was basically cursing, and using profanity to everyone, including her family!  It caused a great uproar with her family!
The nurses had seen this side effect before caused by this medication.  They were laughing at the changes and thought it was very funny!  Funny, not in a bad way, but in a good way.

This nurses had to tell the family that the side effect was a common one, and it was not the ladies fault.  They just needed to overlook the condition.

It did not last long because with her increase in pain medications caused the lady to sleep most of the time.  The comfort of the patients is the main goal  of hospice care.  Unfortunately, the stronger the pain medications usually means the more the patient sleeps.

It is interesting that some of the strong medications could have such a dramatic effect on the human brain.  A change so dramatic that it could change a mild-mannered lady to a foul-mouthed crazy lady!

Do you know of anyone who had a change of personality due to medication?  Can you tell us about it in the comments section?
