Mayor For An Hour

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

I was visiting a very friendly family.  The patient is the brother of a past mayor of Houston.  Jim McConn was the mayor from 1978-1981.  Jim has long passed to eternity and now his brother was our patient.  His sister was instrumental in creating our hospice to begin with and now we are privileged to take care for her brother.

John, our patient, served in the Army in the Second World War, and came out a hero with the silver star and a purple heart.  He then went to law school and became one of Houston's leading trial lawyers.  As you can tell, the entire family was very successful and wealthy.

When I was there three of his granddaughters were present.  They were very friendly ladies and were open to a visit with Martie, my new volunteer trainee and I.  They told me many stories about their grandfather, but one funny story was a visit to his brothers office.

He and his brother Jim looked very similar in appearance.  They were not twins, but did look a lot alike!  One day when John went to his brother Jim, the mayor of Houston, for a visit.  Jim had to slip out for a quick meeting for about an hour and didn't have time to tell anyone.

So John, knowing that he looked like his brother, the mayor, thought that it would be fun to sit in the mayors chair and wave at everyone through the windows.  It worked, he waved at everyone walking by and they all smiled and waved back to him!  John sat in the mayors chair and was mayor for an hour!

Have you had a funny experience before?  Can you tell me about it in the comments section?
