Hot Dr. Pepper

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

Martie and I walked into a room where a middle aged white lady was in bed and her sister-in-law was with her.  We had just seen her sister-in-law downstairs in the break room.  We helped her warm up a cup of Dr. Pepper soda.

Yes, you read right, she warmed up a cup of Dr. Pepper soda!  I have never heard of anyone who had done that before!  Martie said that it probably tastes like cough syrup. I laughed and agreed with her.

When we were in the room, I asked the patient where she got the taste for hot Dr. Pepper.  She said that she got it from her grandmother.  I told her that was a unique taste, and the patient just smiled.  The patient was fighting back a lot of pain, but was still a good sport.

While I continued to chat with the two ladies, Martie took the patients cold food to get it warmed up.  I continued to talk with the ladies. They told me that they have a very large Catholic family and was concerned about too many people showing up at the same time to visit.  I nodded and said that that's a good problem to have!  It's always a blessing to have a large loving family.

Both of them attended St. Thomas High School just like a family downstairs.  Two big Catholic families attending the same Catholic school in the hospice at the same time was rare, but nice.

Helping a grieving family member with a few small mundane tasks was a very small exercise in love. A very small act of love to a complete stranger, who needed some little of innocent attention. Some little thing to make their grief a bit lighter.
