History Lesson

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

Scott and I walked into a room and there was an elderly lady in bed who was the patient, and her son was there with her.  He was in his sixties, slim with gray hair.  He has a kind face, and it turned out that he was a kind man.

Scott, my new volunteer trainee, had just graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in philosophy.  We kinda kidded him that no business are looking to hire philosophers.  Scott was a good sport and took it in stride.

We started to talk about Texas history and the history of Pasadena, TX.  The son and I both grew up in Pasadena in the same time period. Scott grew up in Idaho and Florida and didn't know anything about American or Texas history. We kinda laughed at Scott and said that they didn't educate him about the important things.  The son and I talked more about the local history, our first jobs, and the people that we know.

We talked about Hispanic gangs and the rise in Hispanic based violence and crime in the area.  We swapped stories about those things.  Scott's mother was from Columbia and she was a little uncomfortable.  But we were being good nature about it and laughed, so no one was upset.

It was nice to talk about our old neighborhood. He lives in a different part of the city. I live in the same part of town, but I work and volunteer all of the time now, which just makes be out of touch in the hood. As life marches on for both of us, we followed our different paths. Our neighborhood has changed over the last twenty years, and so have we.
