The Smell Of Cancer!
Hello everyone. Praise the Lord!
It was a beautiful yet warm Saturday morning at our hospice. I had been downstairs for a while and went to the second floor. I had seen a couple in a room sitting with a patient.
I walked into the room with my mint container and offer them some mints. Everyone likes mints and its a great way to break the ice. They were both agreeable to talking.
He middle-aged man was the husband of the patient. The lady sitting on the couch was the twin (not identical) sister of the patient. He man and the patient have been married for thirteen years and the second marriage for both of them.
The first thing they brought up was the smell of cancer in the room. They had put piles of coffee on top of coffee filters around the room, but they feared they were too old. Ground coffee absorbs all kinds of smells.
The smell of cancer usually is not a problem, but I looked up at the patient and she had a track with a breathing hose, and her mouth was bandaged up! She was a fifty-four-year-old lady dying of tongue and throat cancer!
Because she had open wounds on and around her mouth, we could smell the cancer that was killing her. I didn't think that it was too bad, but the sister did and was concerned about it. She went downstairs to get some more coffee.
While she was gone , I stayed and had a nice visit with the husband. Her showed me pictures of his wife and all of the activities they were involved with in their life. When the pictures were done, the smell of cancer remained to remind us of the horrible reality of today!
Do you know of someone how has died from cancer? Can you tell us about it in the comments section?
