You Did A Good Job
Hello Everyone. Praise the Lord!
I was in a room visiting a patient and her daughter on the second floor. We had a nice but short visit. The daughter mentioned that they would like her mother to go outside in the garden.
With a nurse in the room she asked if her mother could be rolled out on the second floor balcony. The nurses said it might be unsafe. So the nurse said that we could roll her downstairs and out the back door into our garden.
She said that she would do that as soon as more relatives arrived. I felt my visit was over so I told them that I would be happy to make myself available for the trip. She was very happy for the offer. I just told her that that's what hospice volunteers do!
I went around and found another patient to visit and was there awhile. When I was finally done there I came downstairs to the break room and found someone to visit there.
I look out of the window from the break room into the garden, what did I see? Nora, one of our long term nurses, with the family, rolling the patient back into the building. I walk around the corner and help to open the door.
Nora, a middle aged black woman with an attitude, and my friend, rolled the patient to the elevator. I give her a thumbs up and told her that she did a good job. Nora, not happy that I wasn't around to roll the patient outside, gave me a incredulous look!
A look that said, "why aren't you doing this job and why are you rubbing my nose in it." I said it again and again with the thumbs up, Nora gave me a strong stare! I retreated back into the break room!
Do you have a friend that you can tease? Can you tell me about it in the comments section?
