The Lady With No Legs
Hello everyone. Praise the Lord!
I was in the room of an elderly African-American lady. I was visiting with her and she was a very nice lady She kept saying that she wanted to sit up in bed because her legs were cramping up, and she was in a lot of pain because of it!
I told her that she would have to wait for the nurses before she could sit up. I sure didn't want her to loose her balance and fall out of bed. Sometimes gravity is not our friend! She kept extending her legs out and rubbing her thighs.
The nurse popped in the room and told her that they were preparing her pain medications and that it would be just a few minutes. She was greatly relieved to here of it. She said that the leg cramping was not going away! She said that if she could sit up and put her feet on the ground it would get better.
The nurse came in with the pain medications and raised her gown to her knees. She injected the medication in a peg tail just below her knee because both of her legs had been amputated! The lady had no legs but was feeling phantom cramping and pain!
The lady seen her missing legs but she still was wanting to stretch out her legs. But the legs were gone and the nurse and I were feeling a bit awkward about it! The nurse, very sweetly, told her that she was a fall risk and told her not to get up and left the room.
I stayed longer and she kept complaining about her legs. I didn't say anything about her amputated legs but just said that the pain medications would start to take affect soon. Sometimes you cannot tell the whole truth to the patient.
Have you ever been in an awkward situation before? Can you tell me about it in the comments section?
