A Born Drummer

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

I was in the room of an African-American family.  The fifty-eight year old son was the patient who was dying of a kidney disease that he was born with and was mentally handicapped.  He was asleep most of the time of my almost four hour visitation.  His mother was sitting on the couch and his step-father was sitting on the chair.  See my other posts about them called, "Her Fathers Revenge," and "He shined like a Diamond."

His wife was doing all of the talking, and when she left, I started talking to him.  He told me that he had been a professional drummer.  He said that he played with BB King and Little Richard and other big name acts over his long carrier.

He said that he always wanted to be a drummer.  When he joined the school band, his teacher gave him a tuba to play and said that he needed tuba players.  He asked if he could play the drums, but to know effect.

But after school, when no one was around, he would play the drums in the band room.  He was a natural at playing the drums.  He never got around to reading music.  He only played by ear.  But how great he played!  He played his tuba in school and joined a band as a drummer after school to make a little money.

At one after school concert, his band teacher was there standing in the corner!  He listened to him play the drums and afterwards and said that he was good.  He told him that he didn't want him playing the drums in school only because he really needed tuba players!

Two days later after my visit his son died.  And that evening he slammed his hand in a car door, and they had to amputate one on his fingers.  He was older but still played in a church band drumming.  I hope he still will be able too!  It was a hard week for him and his wife!

Do you know of a drummer?  Can you tell me about it in the comments section?
