The Victim Advocate
Hello everyone. Praise the Lord!
I was visiting with a middle-aged lady who was sitting with her father at our hospice. She was a very small lady of only eighty-six pounds, but she can sure talk all morning! I sat with her, as she told me many stories and we had a good time together.
Her father was lying in bed resting and she was attending his needs for the last two weeks. She was a housewife, and a victim advocate. She said she had been on television many times, and she seemed very outspoken.
I asked her how she got to become a victim advocate. She said she was in a small restaurant and her young seven-year-old daughter went to use the restroom. A man followed her in, and tried to sexually molest her.
She ran over and stopped it just in time, and if she confronted him, and called the police. The man who committed this criminal act had already done the same thing eighteen other times, and was always let loose. That's when she decided to be a victim advocate!
She had been doing this type of work for years, and has done a lot of good for victims in protecting their rights. She has been on television many times, and in and out of courtrooms, taking the side of the victims.
What we both agreed on, was that victims did not know what type of resources were available to them, in their time of need. That's where this lady came in, she would help them finding the resources that they needed.
I told her that she was a awesome lady who's doing a important job for people in real need. When people are a victimized and they don't know what kind of resources are available. It's wonderful that this lady can devote her life and helping these people get the resources and the help that they need!
Have you ever met a victim advocate before? Can you tell me about it in the comment section?
