Neighborhood Of Memories
Hello everyone. Praise the Lord!
I was at our hospice on a beautiful Saturday morning. I was in one of the rooms, visiting a lady who was sitting with her father. Her father was the patient and he was a peacefully resting in bed. she had sat by his bedside for two weeks now!
We had talked about the neighborhood where she grew up. It's called Meyerland on the west side of Houston. Today it's inner city area, but back then it was the suburbs. She doesn't live in that neighborhood today, but she is not too far away.
But she would describe her neighborhood, and all the wonderful memories that held for her. Memories of playing outside with her friends, and riding her bike around the neighborhood. Drinking water from the water hose. Walking up and down the bayou and in the woods. Coming home when it started getting dark outside.
If her mother wanted to find out where she was, she just had to see which house had all the bikes on the front yard. That's how everybody knew where the kids were hanging out that day. That was back when society was safe, and kids could run around by themselves.
We both sat and reminisced about those days growing up. It was the same for me also in San Antonio and here in Houston. We basically had the same environment growing up. It was a much different world back in those days. It was a much better world back then!
Do you have fun memories of your old neighborhood growing up? Can you tell me about it in the comment section?
