Five Mile Circuit

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

I was sitting in the back room of our hospice talking with a lady of forty-two years of age, who is dying of breast cancer.  She got breast cancer several years ago beat it and now it changed into brain cancer and other parts of her body.  This wonderful lady is named Irma.

So I have her talking about her life and she's very happy to have a visit with someone.  She shares with me, about a few years ago she bought a small country house in East Texas for a little getaway.  She brought her father there, and her father loved it! Irma and her father sometimes would come together, and sometimes her father would come by himself.

He would go up there and spend a month and visit with the neighbors and walk his dog.  Even though it was out in the country every mile or so there was a house along the road.  He loved walking his dog and talking to the neighbors.

He eventually developed a five-mile circuit of the area where he can walk his dog and talk to all the neighbors.  Eventually the neighbors knew when he would come around and be out by the road to talk with him and to pet his dog.

He really enjoyed being out in the country.  This continued for several years until his Alzheimer's got worse, and then he fell and broke his hip!  Irma, his daughter then had to put him in a nursing home for Alzheimer's patients!  Irma has fond memories of her father staying at her country house.  It was a very good memory for her that she's now dwelling on in her final days!

Do you have a fond memory of your father?  Can you tell me about it in the comment section?
