10th Mountain Division
Hello everyone. Praise the Lord!
I had just gotten a couple of bowls for a young lady for her dogs. (See the post called "Dog Bowls.) I rounded the corner and her father was standing there. I gave her the bowls and she smiled and said thank you. I noticed an Army badge he had pinned to his shirt, and I asked him about it. The young lady smiled and rolled her eye's and walked down the hall to her mothers room.
He got very proud and stood straight when I mentioned the pin. He said that his father had been in the 10th Mountain Division in the Second World War in Italy. He described how the division was formed to fight the enemy in difficult mountainous conditions.
He said that they even made a documentary film about the division and what they accomplished. They were the last unit to be formed and the last to be pulled from action. That unit did impossible tasks against, and behind enemy lines.
He described how his father had stepped on a land mine which blew him into another land mine, which then blew him into a third land mine! He took out three land mines single handed! He died so that other soldiers could live. The first land mine killed him, but destroying the others saved others, so they could survive!
He said that he was too young to remember his father. He told me that he would give anything to have known and be able to talk with him. Even though that was not possible, he could wear the pin and talk about his service and his sacrifice to our country. By doing that he could share his life long sacrifice of being without his dad!
Do you know of anyone who lost their father in war? Can you tell me about it in the comments section?
