The Elegant Lady

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

As I was filling the mint jar up and talking with the nurses, I seen a lady walk from the end of the hallway.  The lady was wearing a long evening dress and holding a wine glass.  She looked like she was in her sixties.  I looked twice at her and smiled and said hello.  I did that not because of her, but we just never see a scene like that in a hospice!  She kept walking down the hallway with a big smile on her face!

Another volunteer arrived with a basket of pillow cases, and we were talking at the nurses station.  As we were talking the elegant lady came floating back down the hallway.  We kept talking as she went by again.

We went to the large Ukrainian family at the end of the hallway in the third floor family room.  We were going to give them a pillow cases that are specially made for us by a local quilting club.  We walk into the family room and the room was full of Russian Speaking Ukrainians.

In the midst of the crowded room, there she is, wine glass still in her hand!  I said there is the wine lady!  The elegant lady looked at me and smiled and said that it was actually vodka!  Vodka mixed with some kind of fruit juice.  She seemed slightly intoxicated.

The whole family around her was grief stricken for the young lady dying in the next room.  Everyone has their way to grieve, the elegant lady's way to grieve was to drink vodka.  She was an island in a sea of grief.  It was a strange scene!

Have you seen a strange scene?  Can you tell me about it in the comments section?
