That Man Tried To Kill Me!

 Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

My wife and I arrived early at the nursing home, we went in and sat on a couch for our hospice supervisor. While there we spoke to an older gentleman in a wheelchair. There was another older man walking around with a walker. When the walker moved around the corner, the other man leaned in to say something.

He said in a lower voice, "that man tried to kill me!"  We were a bit shocked by this sudden news! He continued, "That man was in his wheelchair and he knocked me down and rolled over my legs." He looked around and continued, "I thought that he broke both of my legs!"

By this time the man with the walker came back and walked around us. I looked at his as he walked by and the look on his face was a bit disturbing. It did seem like he knew that we were talking about him!  When the walker passed by around the corner again, the man in the wheelchair said, "I thought that he killed me!"

At this time our hospice volunteer coordinator came walking into the room. This saved us from this disturbing conversation. Mary had parked in the back where we were supposed to park. But we looked at each other and couldn't believe we have forgotten about that, we even had the code for the back door.

We laughed about the confusion and started walking down the hallway. Our first patient was Carolee, but as we walked into the cafeteria, she was playing bingo with six or seven other patients.  So we decided to let sleeping dog lie and talked about another patient we could visit.

We walked to the other wing of the nursing home and visited a lady who was one hundred years old! She was listening to an audible book with a headset.  Mary had to knee in front of her to get her attention as se was almost blind.

She took off her headset and let Mary know that she had ear wax removal solution in her ears and could barely hear Mary. A visit with her was just impossible. So we double backed to Carolee at the bingo table. As we returned to the far cafeteria the bingo game was ending.

We greeted Carolee in her oversized wheelchair and wheeled her to the back sitting room. We all sat down and started to have a very nice conversation. Carolee was completely different when we tried to visit her last week.

But then something weird happened!

An elderly man walked up to us and started to join the conversation. He was uninvited, but he was probably lonely and wanted to share in our visit with Carolee. We all had unspoken compassion for this gentleman.

We continued our visit and we wheeled Carolee to one of the tables, as they were almost ready for their supper. The three of us were overjoyed that we could get a good visit with one of the two patients. We all agreed that our visit put a smile of happiness on the face of our patient friend.
